Fabian
aus dem gleich lautenden Rufnamen lateinischen Ursprungs, der auf einen römischen Geschlechternamen zurückgeht, entstandener Familienname. Zur Verbreitung des Namens im Mittelalter trug die Verehrung des heiligen Fabianus bei, der als Papst i.J. 250 den Martertod erlitt. Von Fabian leiten sich u.a. die Familiennamen Fabig(an), Fabisch, Fabianek, z.T. auch Fabel ab.
