vorwiegend im Bereich PforzheimþOffenburgþKonstanz anzutreffender, auf den Heiligennamen Gereon/Gerion (wohl zu griech. geron »Greis«) zurückgehender Familienname. Nach der Legende war der heilige Gereon ein Offizier der Thebäischen Legion, der mit mehreren Gefährten in der zweiten Hälfte des 4.Jh. bei Köln den Martertod erlitt.
